Back in June of this year,
Rolling Stone Magazine's on-line
Rock&Roll Daily blog reported that members of Phish had been meeting and discussing a possible reunion. The widely popular and extremely talented jam band had called it quits after 2004, and a reunion has been in the rumor mill ever since then. Needless to say, there was plenty of skepticism when the stories sprung up last Summer, even while members of the band were showing up to play at each other's shows.
But then, on October first of this year, the naysayers were silenced, the unbelievers converted, and so on, as the official announcement was:
Phish returns to the stage for three concerts at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia on March 6, 7 and 8, 2009.
A limited number of tickets are available directly through Phish Tickets' on line ticketing system at http://phish.portals.musictoday.com/ . The ticketing request period is currently underway and will end on Wednesday, October 8th at 11:59AM EST.
Tickets go on sale to the public on Saturday, October 18th at 10 AM EST and may be purchased on line at http://ticketmaster.com or by phone at 757.671.8100, 757.872.8100 or 804.262.8100. Tickets will not be available at the venue box office and there is a two-ticket limit per show.
The band intends to announce additional touring in 2009 early next year.

That's a clear and straightforward announcement, and joyful news for those who were able to get tickets. And, if you notice the italicized sentence at the end of the press release, it is clear that there will be more shows in 2009.
Why should this be something to get excited about? It is because Phish is every bit as legendary as the Beatles and the Stones, or Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Phish brought millions of fans a unique blend of music that had never before been heard.
So, there are thousands of web sites that host speculative discussions of when and where Phish will perform in 2009. Rumors, often attributed to "someone who knows someone who knows the people who are supposed to know these things," have started about there being as many as five shows in Denver, or Salt Lake City, or San Diego, Cleveland, or even Albuquerque. Even the many on line ticket brokers are gearing up for what they hope will be "The Big Reunion Tour," each running adds claiming that it is the best place to get Phish Reunion Tour tickets.
The truth is, there is no way to confirm any of this. I hate to have to throw ice in the cold bath, because I would be thrilled to see them in a large venue where the road trip wouldn't be out of the question. I know "people who know people" myself, but the only answers I received were that we will likely have to wait until March before any news at all of a tour is released.
But we can be sure there will be a tour of sorts, the details of which will probably be worked out during the three concert stand in Hampton. But, if Phish does schedule a concert near you, it will be worth the wait, won't it?
