I tend from time to time to wonder about which feature is most important to have at the top of the home page. The music player? The pictures? The blogs? The videos or the text introduction? So I am periodically switching things around to see what works best for the members and for attracting new members. Please give me some feedback here and let me know what you think.
Thanks for the heads up and invite into Eclectic Jammys. I would suggest at this point, if the goal is to spread the word about this new forum/site, you'll want to keep the most fresh content nearest to the top of the page possible. This will help from a search engine optimization standpoint - engines crave fresh content. So, perhaps the blog works best at the top. The engines don't do nearly as good a job reading vid or images. Plus, such a large portion of the world is *not* on a high speed connection, having heavy load items at the top can discourage people from hanging around.
All that said, a stock intro note to greet people is very handy. I find that the quick note I placed on top of the most recent post at my blog drives a large volume of traffic through the site itself. People seem to appreciate the gentle link direction.
Thanks arkstar. I took your suggestion for putting the blogs at the top, before you suggested it, but that is appreciated. As far as a guide goes, I tried the activity report at the top of the left hand margin, but I might alternate it with the "What is Jam Music?" introduction every other week.
